Built from nothing by a local family, grown by another, and still rooted in the same community we started serving in 2006.

We're an independently run business serving West Lothian and the Central Belt of Scotland, and we're proud that much of our business comes through personal recommendation. That's not something you can manufacture. It's the result of nearly two decades of honesty, integrity, and reliability — and it's something we work hard to maintain every single day.

The McMurdo's founded Castlebrae in 2006 with no inherited client list, no corporate backing, and no shortcuts — just a deep understanding of West Lothian and a commitment to doing things properly. Starting as a letting agency, they built the business the old-fashioned way: by being genuinely good at it.

Over the next ten years, Castlebrae became one of the most recognised letting agencies in West Lothian. Not through big advertising budgets or aggressive tactics — but through word of mouth, repeat business, and a reputation built property by property, client by client.

By the mid-2010s, that reputation opened the door to the next chapter. Castlebrae expanded into property sales, and quickly established itself in that market too. The same values that had built the lettings business carried straight over.

After an incredibly successful career in property, the McMurdos made the decision they'd earned: to step back and hand over to the next generation. But they didn't pass Castlebrae to just anyone. They entrusted it to the Chisholm family in 2018 — people who understood that what made Castlebrae special wasn't its size, it was its soul. The values, the client relationships, and the personal touch stayed exactly where they belonged.

Through every one of these changes, one thing has stayed constant: the people. Behind Castlebrae's continuity is a team that has quite literally seen it all — the growth, the handover, the changing market. Jody, our Branch Manager, has been part of the Castlebrae family for 15 years, Fiona for 13, Karen for 10, and Joanne for 7, just to name a few! Between them and the rest of our fantastic team, they carry decades of local knowledge, client relationships, and Castlebrae simply wouldn't be Castlebrae without them.

We're proud of how far we've come. And we're not done yet.
