We understand that circumstances change, and when the time comes to move on we want to make the process as straightforward as possible. This page covers everything you need to know about ending your tenancy with Castlebrae — from giving notice to getting your deposit back.

Under a Private Residential Tenancy (PRT), you are required to give a minimum of 28 days' written notice to end your tenancy. Your notice must be submitted in writing. You can give notice by:

  • Emailing us at info@castlebrae.property

  • Writing to us at 25 George Street, Bathgate, EH48 1PG

Your notice period begins from the date we receive it, not the date you send it, so please bear this in mind when planning your move. We will acknowledge your notice in writing and confirm your last day of tenancy.

If you moved in before 2017 you may be on a different tenancy agreement and may have a different notice requirement, please contact us if you are not sure.

When we acknowledge your notice, we will issue you with our end of tenancy guidance pack. This includes a detailed cleaning checklist, a full list of things to do before you leave, and everything you need to know to give yourself the best possible chance of getting your full deposit back. Please read it thoroughly and work through it carefully in the weeks leading up to your move-out date.

Once your tenancy agreement is signed and all funds have been received, your move-in date will be confirmed. On the day, you'll come to our office to pick up your keys and a member of our team will talk you through everything you need to know.

Once you get to your new home, you should:

01

Read your end of tenancy guidance pack thoroughly as soon as you receive it. It includes a detailed room-by-room cleaning checklist and a full list of everything you need to do before you leave. The earlier you start working through it, the less pressure you'll have in the final days.

02

Clean the property thoroughly, clear all of your belongings, and make sure everything is in the same condition as when you moved in. If there are any minor repairs or issues you can address before you leave, do so. Refer to your original inventory report as your guide.

03

On or before your last day of tenancy, return all keys, fobs, and access items to our office in person. Please do not post them through the letterbox. Make sure you have a set for every lock — including any spares that were issued to you at the start of your tenancy.
