Whilst we are all currently self-isolating due to COVID 19, why not take the time to do those improvements around your house that kept being pushed to the bottom of the “to-do” list? Not only is it time well spent, it’s a good way to remain active and maintain our mental health.

If you’re thinking about selling your home after the period of self-isolation ends, then these home improvements can add value to your property and have buyers keen to make an offer.

Being proactive and maintaining your home can make the days pass faster and you’ll achieve satisfaction and a rewarding feeling from your efforts.

Top 6 Self-Isolation Home Improvement Ideas

Our 6 home improvements ideas can typically be achieved whilst self-isolating, but if you do need any supplies you can often “click and collect” or order online and have the items delivered. Most importantly, always remain safe.

1.         Spruce Up The Garden: Whether it’s cutting the grass, repainting the decking or trimming the hedge, gardening can be an excellent way to pass the time. As Spring has arrived, this is a great way to spend more time outside without putting yourself at risk. You can listen to music and get fresh air - ideal to make self-isolation feel shorter.

2.         Lick of Paint: If you have an old tub of paint left over, why not give your walls a fresh coat of paint to make your home look brighter? Paint fades over time so it’s important to keep topping up your walls with new coats on a regular basis.

3.         Washing Windows: Clean windows allow more light into your home and can brighten up the room. This is especially important at the moment with most window cleaners self-isolating.

4.         Power Wash Drive Way: If you have a power washer you could use this time to wash down and clean your driveway or decking.

5.         Clean Out The Garage: If you have a garage and it’s been used to store old boxes, papers or other items, then why not think about a clear out of the things you don’t need? You may also find things you had forgotten about which could be of great use to you.

6.         De-Clutter: We all have cupboards and boxes we use to store old items – such as clothes and paperwork – so you could make more space by clearing these out. The house will also feel larger and you’ll have another task crossed off your “to-do” list.

These are a selection of our ideas to make the most of self-isolation, however we would love to hear your own tips and advice. If you have any before and after pictures please send them to us on social media!

We want everyone to stay at home and stay safe, however it’s also important to remain healthy by being active too. Having a daily routine or ticking off outstanding tasks can help keep you mentally and physically fit, which is important for our wellbeing.
